192.com Business Services Adds IP Address Validation Technology to Deliver More Advanced Identity and Age Verification Solutions

November 28, 2006

192.com Business Services has now integrated advanced IP address validation technologies into its global ID and age verification offering.

Licensed from Quova, the IP intelligence expert, the addition of IP address validation to 192.com Business Services’ identity check solutions is another tool to help ecommerce companies detect and prevent online identity fraud.

192 Net-ID works by identifying a computer user’s unique IP (Internet Protocol) address and uses that as an identifier in customer validation processes in addition to name, address and date of birth. 192 Net-ID allows merchants to spot suspicious transactions where the computer user’s address differs notably from the billing address. For example, if a transaction shows a ship-to-address in Bulgaria, a billing-address just outside of Birmingham and the online application request originating from a computer in Nigeria; the solution will immediately flag this as a likely fraud attempt.

“”The addition of IP addressing technology is yet another nail in the coffin for the fraudster,”" said Grant Greenwood, product manager at 192.com Business Services. “”The skyrocketing levels of identity fraud mean e-businesses must be ever more rigorous in their ID and age checking procedures. By integrating Net-ID into the transaction process, companies can ensure they are protected to the highest level.”"

192 Net-ID also provides an additional layer of protection by comparing a customer’s IP address with a ‘hot-list’ of other IP addresses associated with known fraudulent transactions. This solution will benefit such industries as e-retailers, Internet gaming sites, banking, finance and payment processing.

“”IP addressing is especially important given the recent US Internet gaming ban,”" said Motie Bring of PKR. “”Internet gaming sites like ours must now be more cautious then ever not to take bets originating from America. This technology allows us to identify exactly where our customers are logging on from so we can ensure we remain in line with the latest regulations.”"

“”CNP fraud is the curse of the online retailer,”" says Peter Gore at Laptopshop.co.uk, “”We welcome technology like 192 Net-ID to bring another layer of defence to bear in the fight against the fraudster.”"
