Web users will be able to watch over 50 games, from the NBA, the largest and most competitive basketball league in the world. Two live transmissions every week. The Globoesporte.com site will also give live coverage of the All Star Weekend from February the 17th to February the 19th, of the ‘Dunk Contest’, of the Playoffs, and of the Western Conference finals, the big final, of the best moments in NBA history and the best moments of the present season. It is the biggest and most complete content package on the NBA ever made available by a Brazilian web portal.

Globoesporte.com and the NBA, world famous US basketball league, have just signed a 3-year-long agreement to transmit live games via the Brazilian portal. The portal will be the only one in Brazil with the rights to transmit the season’s games from February 7th and will offer full coverage of everything that happens in the NBA, including stats, daily news flashes and much more. Roby Porto will comment the games exclusively for Globo.com. Porto has 11 years experience in this area.

The legendary player Julius Erving is in Brazil for the first time to the announcement of this partnership. More known as Dr J, he is one of the 50th more important players in the league history. He started a new way to play basketball, performing feats never before seen: midair spins and whirls punctuated by powerful slam dunks.

Every week, two live games will be broadcasted. The opening event will be the game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks, live from Dallas, Texas, at 23h30 local time. Globoesporte.com will also offer video streaming, on a daily basis, on the highlights of all the previous day’s games.

From February the 17th to February the 19th, web users will be able to watch live the 55th edition of the All Star Game, apart from the ‘Dunk Contest’ and all the skills competitions that are part of the All Star Weekend. From April on, it is time for the decisive games for each of the conferences, with the playoffs. The best moments of NBA history and unforgettable plays from icons such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird will also be available at Globoesporte.com, through a group of programs called “NBA History”, with the very best of the history of the competition.

Globoesporte.com, the most complete sports Web portal in Brazil, will also carry out promotions that will take Brazilian Web subscribers of “NBA package” to the US to see some of the more exciting games in the season. There will also be draws of sports equipment and materials exclusive to the league, such as shirts, uniforms, autographed basket balls, and much more.

"The partnership between Globo.com and the NBA only strengthens the company’s commitment with the offering of the best and most complete sports contents to the Brazilian public.  Our Globoesporte.com Web portal, the most complete Web address in Brazil for sports lovers, greatly improves its standings with the addition of the contents on the NBA, positioning itself as a natural leader in the category. The energy in the NBA is contagious and we are sure our Web users will love this novelty provided by Globoesporte.com", says Juarez Queiroz, president for Globo.com.

“With four Brazilian players in the league, partnering with Globo.com is an ideal way to provide local fans the opportunity to follow their native stars and experience the excitement of the NBA firsthand,” said Vincent Burniske, Senior Director of NBA International Television and Marketing Partnerships.

This system is based on Quova Media, from Quova Inc., the authority on IP Intelligence and leading provider of Internet geolocation data and services. The Quova geolocation technology will ensure that the NBA video will be accessible to online viewers only in Brazil, assuring Globo’s compliance with the NBA’s geographic licensing rights.
